Makhana (Euryale ferox), revered for millennia in Ayurvedic tradition, is emerging as the definitive superfood of 2026. Grown in the pristine wetlands of Bihar's Mithila region, our Makhana carries a Geographical Indication (GI) tag — a certification of its unique provenance and unmatched quality.
With rising global demand for clean-label snacking, gut-friendly foods, and plant-based proteins, Makhana is positioned at the intersection of every 2026 wellness macro-trend. Our grading system — 4 Suta, 5 Suta, and 6 Suta — ensures buyers receive precisely the size and quality their market demands.
We serve two distinct buyer profiles — select the path that matches your procurement needs.
4 Suta · 5 Suta · 6 Suta graded makhana in wholesale bags. Full container loads (FCL), LCL, and breakbulk available. FOB Kolkata with phytosanitary documentation.
Ready-to-retail flavoured makhana in branded pouches — Peri Peri, BBQ, Cream & Onion, Jalapeño & more. 29 SKUs available for private-label or white-label supply.
Makhana is volumetrically bulky but featherlight. Use this tool to plan your shipment — select a container and target weight to see exactly how your load fills the space.
⚠️ Makhana is governed by volumetric weight, not gross weight — a 40ft HC container typically reaches its cubic capacity well before its payload limit. Palletisation with 4-way entry recommended for port handling.
LCL shipment — cost-effective for trial orders. Consolidation service available from Kolkata ICD.

Everything importers, distributors, and buyers ask before sourcing makhana from India.
Quantyra Labs is APEDA-registered (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority), FSSAI certified (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India), ISO compliant, and holds an active IEC (Import Export Code). Our makhana carries the Mithila Makhana GI tag — the official Geographical Indication from the Government of India — plus India Organic certification. Full Certificate of Analysis (COA), phytosanitary certificates, and NABL-accredited lab reports are provided with every shipment.
Makhana is graded by size using a traditional Suta measurement system. 4 Suta is the smallest commercial grade — cost-effective for snack mixes and bulk ingredient use. 5 Suta is the mid-size grade and the most widely exported, popular in European and North American health-food retail. 6 Suta is the largest premium grade, prized in UAE, UK, and US premium retail and gifting channels. All grades from Quantyra Labs are GI-tagged and batch lab-tested.
Whole dried makhana is most commonly exported under HS Code 0813.40.90 (other dried fruits). Some shipments are classified under 1106.30 if in flour or powder form. The exact code can vary by destination country's customs authority. Quantyra Labs provides full export documentation and can advise on classification for your specific market — contact us at exports@quantyralabs.com.
Our MOQ starts from 500 kg per grade for trial/sample orders. Standard commercial orders are typically 1–5 MT per grade. Full container loads (FCL, 20ft or 40ft) and less-than-container (LCL) shipments are both available. Pricing is quoted FOB Kolkata or CIF to your port. Yes. Mithila Makhana received its Geographical Indication (GI) tag from the Government of India in 2022. This is a legally protected designation — similar to Champagne or Darjeeling Tea — certifying the makhana was grown in the Mithila region of Bihar using traditional methods. For importers, the GI tag provides traceability, a premium quality guarantee, and strong marketing differentiation in health-food retail.
Per 100g, makhana contains approximately 9.7g protein, 76g carbohydrates, and just 0.1g fat. It is naturally gluten-free, low-glycaemic, vegan, and non-GMO. Makhana is also a good source of magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, and antioxidants. These properties make it suitable for diabetic, coeliac, and plant-based diet segments — a key driver of global demand.
Quantyra Labs currently exports GI-tagged Mithila Makhana to 8+ countries including the United States, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Germany, Netherlands, Canada, Australia, and Singapore. We supply importers, distributors, health-food retailers, and private-label brands. Buyers in new markets are welcome — our export team handles all documentation for EU, US FDA, UAE ESMA, and other regulatory requirements.
